Sigur Rós once again draws listeners into their signature atmospheric world with their new surprise album ÁTTA, released digitally on June 16, 2023 and coming on physical formats September 2023. After a number of years exploring various projects, the band has presented their first regular studio album in 10 years, their most intimate and emotionally direct work to date.
In a world filled with noise and distractions, Sigur Rós manages to cut through and capture the audience in a way that only they can. ÁTTA reflects the band's new dynamism and drive that emerges from the reunited lineup. Multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson returns to the fold - after leaving the band in 2012 - and joins frontman Jónsi and bassist Georg Holm.
The album ÁTTA was recorded on different continents - at Sigur Rós' own Sundlaugin studio in Iceland, the iconic Abbey Road in the UK and a number of studios in the US. The orchestral element plays a significant role on the album, building on the musical tradition that has made Sigur Rós one of the most ambitious and acclaimed bands of recent times. It also signals an exciting and expansive opportunity for the band's future. The London Contemporary Orchestra - conducted by Robert Ames - features on ÁTTA alongside brass by Sigur Rós' longtime Icelandic collaborators, Brassgat í bala. The album was mixed and co-produced by frequent collaborator Paul Corley in close collaboration with the band themselves.
