Monokino is an electronic indie pop band. The project brings together the artistic visions of 3 musicians from 3 very different worlds: George van Wetering (Amsterdam) song writer, lead vocals, guitar, and Yu Jin (former keyboard player of first all-women rock band Cobra from Beijing, China now living in Hamburg, Germany) on keyboard and synthesizer. In 2007 electronic percussionist Frans van Gastel joined the band. In May 2006 Monokino released their first EP in China with help from labels Newbees Music (Beijing, China) and Saint Records (Hamburg, Germany). On May 4th, Monokino played at the 4-day Midi Music Festival in Beijing, China to 20.000 visitors. Monokino will return to China to play at different festivals in 2008. Monokino is currently doing a lot of shows in Holland and Germany. " Electronic music isn't commonly associated with ballads but, owing in part to the pleasing, melodious and high-pitched voice of the singer, George, they produced the most original songs of the evening. George has a remarkable voice, reminiscent of Brian Molko (only better). Chinese Yu Jin plays keyboards.
