The All Star Percussion Ensemble
Harold Farberman
Harold Farberman actually deserves star status – if percussionists were idolized just as much as pianists, guitarists, saxophonists or other instrumentalists. Farberman studied percussion at the Juilliard School of Music and, at the age of 20, became the youngest member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. During this time, he took up composition studies, wrote his first pieces, and later conducted orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. His work includes three operas for percussion instruments, various works for orchestra and chamber ensembles, film music, and compositions for dance companies. Today, he holds a professorship at Bard College in New York.
This recording contains four classical works from the early Romantic period, the Romantic period and the Baroque era that, from the perspective of original compositions, could not be more different. Ten of the best percussionists from the most renowned American orchestras come together under Farberman's baton, playing between 60 and 80 different percussion instruments – per work! The recording, produced by the legendary Andrew Kazdin, creates a fascinating soundscape that is not often heard in concert halls or on albums.
The numbered and limited UHQCD from AudioNautes Recordings is characterized by a homogeneous sound that does not limit the spectacular dynamic range of the recording!
UHQCD stands for Ultimate High Quality Compact Disc and is a joint development of the Japanese CD replication company Memory-Tech and the Audio Quality CD Company from Hong Kong. Unlike conventional CDs, UHQCDs are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. Another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied to the softer photopolymer for scratch protection. The combination results in significantly reduced reflection of laser light inside the CD and an unmatched precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with standard CD players. Musically, the result is a sound image strongly reminiscent of analog master tapes.
