Progress... A noun, a verb, and a musical experience. Hailing from just outside Richmond, VA and currently based in Newport News, VA, conscious Christian emcee Progress represents a homegrown Virginia talent with. From these beginnings, he has emerged as a musical breath of fresh air, a local artist with a global focus. His name represents everything this twenty-something artist hopes to encompass, as a man of faith and a maker of music. Progress is no stranger to writing and rhyming, having started rapping in 1998. The independent artist just recently released his second full-length album, the mostly-autobiographical Works in Progress, the long-awaited follow-up to his first offering, 2005's The Forward Movement. The 13-track project, features production by up-and-comers like S Type, Authentic and Soul Theory, as well as several songs by Progress himself, Works in Progress represents a triumphant step in the spiritual, conceptual and musical development of Progress. Says reviewer Mark Newton, music editor of The Captain's Log newspaper: "Listening to Progress is like reading a book, which, in this case, is a good thing and his sense of rhythm propels the material forward nicely." Creatively combining personal witness, thoughtful and precise lyrics and a taut, polished delivery, Progress is a true thinking man's artist, engaging a range of topics, from a conscious Christian perspective. His own progression through life as a spiritual person, victories and shortcomings alike, form the fertile ground upon which most of his music grows. He diligently approaches his craft with the twin goals of sharing his life and faith through his God-given talent and spiritually awakening his generation to the truths of Christ and the Scriptures. Echoing the sentiments of the Apostle Paul, Progress is "forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead" (Philippians 3:13). He is ready to break through like light emerging from darkness to boldly testify to the world of his progression through rhymes and beats.
