Services for Families of Children with Disability in Bangladesh: a Proposal for Policy Strategy

This book discusses a strategy to get the Department of Social Services of Bangladesh to develop a new policy on ?Disability services for children with disability and their families?. The needs of the children with disability should to be observed as fragment of developmental phases. Family environment of these children plays an important role in their lives than in older ages. ?Disability service? is a policy driven support system which is delivered by disability service providers specifically for the support of persons with a disability. Existing problem in Bangladesh is that, neither the children with disability get a complete package of disability services nor their families receive any disability care respite services. Currently the Department of Social Services (DSS) has been implementing stipend program for the student, though this is not adequate. The Bangladesh Constitution has clause to ensure social security for all the children and their families. For this policy strategy the government and the DSS have to adopt CBR strategy as well as they have to change the mindset. Proposals of this policy strategy are to adopt English speaking countries' strategy of ECIS and ISPs.
