Published! Now What? Since I published Writing As Art, Editing & Publishing in 2016, I have had many workshop participants and experienced authors asked me this question. The answer is obvious, but sometimes intimidating. Most of the writers I meet want to write, edit and publish, but do not want to deal with the marketing, sales and the promotions required to be a success as an independently published author. Remember, the simple answer to what's the difference between traditional and independent publishing is not so simple. The simple answer is: traditional publishers are supposed to edit, publish, promote and sell the author's book; versus nontraditional, self or independent publisher who write, edit, publish, promote, market and sell their own books. So, very simply, we have the tools to publish today that were out of our reach just 5-10 years ago. Particularly, independent publishing has had a clear historical path to success beginning with great and well known authors. If we choose, like some before us, to publish and commit to the cost and the specifics of independent-publishing, we can have artistic control and a higher return from our book promotions, signings and sales. It is my hope that the information provided in this book, will give you, the writer and author, useful tools and ideas for promoting, marketing and selling more books.
