Life?s a bitch, especially when you are a bitch. Sondra?s motto was hand-painted onto the wall of her small, efficiency apartment above Blackwater?s Bar and Grill, a sleazy pub in the Snake Town, that is, the slums, of West Port, the capital city and main spaceport of Virge-C, a decrepit planet in the outer rim of the spiral arm controlled by the Galactic Federation, which was run by the big corporations. Virge-C had only been brought into the federation some fifty years ago and then only because of its mineral resources, certainly not because of its inferior space fleet, most of which were rusting, lumbering hulks. The corporations promised vast new, shining, modern ships, but had been slow to deliver on their agreements. Orphan Sondra Sofia Shelly, twenty-two, something of a private investigator accepted a job to clone a man?s cell phone. Late at night, she followed her mark and did the deed. As she ducked down a side street, she came face-to-face with herself! However, the man whose phone she?d just cloned shot and killed the strange woman right before Sondra?s eyes. The woman?s dying wish was for Sondra to take her ID card and become her. Thus, began a lengthy, cascading series of events for Sondra. She dons the woman?s identity to figure out what is going on. Did she have an unknown sister? But the conspiracy is much larger. Soon, Sondra becomes entwined in the Galactic Federation?s attempts to take over total control of her world, Virge-C. Enmeshed between local forces trying to throw off the suppressive yoke of the alien corporations and the top CEOs of these corporations, Sondra refuses to be a pawn and continues to fight back. Serendipity eventually leads to some incredible results that she never dreamed possible.
