James Chalmers served God as a missionary in New Guinea. He regarded every person who lived in Rarotonga as being under his care and having equal claims for spiritual help. The ten years he spent in Rarotonga were a fitting prelude to the more difficult work done in New Guinea. James Chalmers was a humble man who lived for the glory of God and died as a martyr at the hands of those he loved. He had come to tell them of his Lord and Saviour who had died on behalf of sinners.
