All Leona wanted to do was play sports. If having zero friends is what it took, that was fine with her. Because of being picked on in Middle School, she developed an attitude: "If they are afraid of me, they'll leave me alone."

That attitude led her to being suspended her freshman year of high school a record twenty-two times. On the last day of school, she was caught fighting. Suspension. Again. Figuring she was out of control, her parents moved the family from Maine to Vermont.

All. Her. Fault.

In Woodstock, before she even starts school, she meets Eve, an over-the-top happy girl. She's kinda cool except for she's into all the God stuff. That just isn't normal. Then Leona meets Rodney. He's older, good looking, and trouble - but she doesn't see it, despite warnings. She's thrilled to have a boyfriend.

In school, she's given an assignment on Hawaii. She is determined to succeed, to show her mother that she's not a complete failure. Eve's family invites Leona to Hawaii. During the trip, she is given insight to people who've made tragic mistakes, as well as families with solid, Christian faith. Surrounded by a group of "overly happy," God-loving people, she reflects on her life, her boyfriend, her family, and especially her attitude.

Can she change? Will her attitude destroy her good relationships? And God, is He really real?

If He is, can He possibly care about her when she's so...bad?
