From the AshesHatcher and his community of survivors attempt to recover from a devastating and well-coordinated attack from the Zulus. With their home burned and their infrastructure failing, they branch out looking for a new place that they can defend. A place that they can call home. The CDC researchers discover that their cure was not what they thought. As the first to be exposed begin to change into something else, they worry that they've doomed what is left of humanity to a fate worse than death. Simon is wounded.
