"Event 2012", a historical science fiction novel by Curt Morelock and co-author, Ray Burke, involves two time-traveling college students from the year 2010. Randy Kaplan and Matt Miller, in the adventure of a lifetime - embark upon a quest to save the doomed liner, when they go back in time to the year 1910. Randy's dreams of a young and beautiful Victorian lady, beckoning and begging him to come save her, is more than he can bear. They meet the original workers, designers and convince the owner to allow them to work on the great ships. They argue for needed changes, but few are realized, because of the company's arrogance and pride. To complicate matters, Randy is falling in love with Sarah, one of the designer's daughter. In a very strange, but moving love story, he must not reveal the secret of who he is and where he came from. She becomes angry. When the boys decide to return to their own time, they discover Randy's beloved is leaving for New York on the unsinkable ship. Randy's desire to be with her is overpowering, so they also book passage. The young men make the last minute effort to vault forward to 2012 via their (1912) homemade copy of the time machine. They experience the implosion, however, it was a failure - they are still aboard. The new century media has a field day with the Titanic sailing past the Statue of Liberty 100 years late. It's truly an awesome sight for the thousands who came to see her! After most of the passengers disembark, they begin to disappear, each with an expression of total surprise. Randy has learned a hard lesson for interfering with Time. He is overcome by grief at the loss of Sarah...
