Letters to Our Children
Phd Charles a Whitehurst
This book is a compilation of letters written to children and grandchildren over a period of several years. They were a means of communicating the concerns of an older generation, concerns related to morality, ethics, character, spirituality, personality, and much more, to a younger generation. There is a general consensus that the morality and ethical standards of this nation, and others, are in serious decline, even to the degree that the nation itself is in jeopardy. Parents ask daily: "Where have we failed?" "Is it too late to reverse these trends?" "Does this present generation understand the dangers facing the nation, communities or individuals?" How do we answer these questions and many more? This book is the results of our endeavors to answer some of these questions for the few young people that we have advised, primarily our children and grandchildren and the student population that we encountered along the way. It is imperative that the older generations make a supreme effort to breech the "generation gap" and to promote better understanding between the groups. There is definitely a difference of opinion among age groups regarding music, values, politics, work ethics, etc. These differences are usually between the younger generation and their parents or grandparents. We have attempted to organize the letters according to specific subject matter, e.g. advice on our spiritual selves, on developing good personal characteristics, and how to plan. None of the thoughts and advice given are new - they have all been offered before and in many formats.
