When Margaret Wingfield, residing at Washington Arms assisted living, tells Maggie, her 28 year old attorney-granddaughter, she plans to give several million dollars to a children's charity that supports orphans in Africa, Maggie cautions her to be sure the orphanages are legitimate. Intrigued by circumstances at Washington Arms, Maggie launches a personal investigation resulting in new friends, a harrowing death attempt, and the revelation of a well-guarded secret of the charity. The one person Maggie depends on for guidance is Tom Lloyd, senior law partner and uncle to William Handel.
