The main character, Deshawn, who after his battle with depression, suffers new trials as his changed state of mind is put to the test after a female student takes an interest in him. He shares his life experiences with her explaining that these were the things that not only destroyed him, but made him a stronger person. Mind shattering memories, emotional and physical scars, and buried feelings that he fought so hard to put behind him are revealed. Blocking off contact with his family whom he feels spurned him, his closest friends keep him from going over the edge.
