Throughout the author's life's journey as a children's entertainer and educator, Mr. Bear continually meets great kids with whom he can relate. Some are social, outgoing and funny while others are shy, introverted or face physical, mental or social challenges. He believes that every child is unique, but one thing they all have in common is their colorful imagination. Using their imagination helps them to become comfortable with who they are. In reality, childhood can be challenging. His hope in sharing his story is that it will stimulate open conversation and honest dialogue between children and their parents, teachers, counselors and therapists. To the author's surprise, the first child to be emotionally healed by this story, was the child that still lives within him. As a child he suffered from ADD and a severe stutter. Mr. Bear experienced being bullied, loneliness and needing positive attention. To this day, as an adult, he still struggles to live with his differences, however, he does not let them stand in the way of his pursuit of success and happiness. Writing Mr. Bear's Trunk has been a cathartic and therapeutic experience for him. He hopes that his story will help adults and children of all ages to accept, to be comfortable with and to value their unique qualities. Mr. Bear's Trunk is the door to imagination. We all have a trunk. A deep, hidden place where imagination lives and where we keep all things that are important to us, such as our memories, moments and dreams.
