Gretchen, an emotionally crushed girl from a cold, barren military family, is dropped off by her parents to stay with complete strangers for several weeks in 1965. On their wheat farm in Kansas, she is befriended by two carefree girls determined to coax her out of her shell. As their friendship develops, they discover a strange island of trees, a hidden cemetery, a stone cave house inhabited by mysterious beings of light, and an ancient ceremonial mound. All the while, a dark presence is manifesting around Gretchen, determined to prevent her from breaking free and finding her soul. With each new revelation, the girls are drawn deeper into an unseen realm where spirits and shadow people, mysteries and camaraderie lead them to form a rare, unbreakable bond. The clock, however, is ticking in this paranormal, coming-of-age mystery.
