What is Randall Hackett, a highly decorated, ex-cop to do when he is not only fed up with the mistreatment of his fellow Black sisters and brothers at the hands of the police, but has tasted such humiliation personally? How is this former officer, who fully believes in the "Protect and Serve" calling, to respond when he sees no end to police consistently abusing that calling, wreaking havoc upon Black families and communities by killing their innocent indiscriminately? When even peaceful calls for justice and accountability are ignored and even weaponized, Hackett sees no other way to affect change than to take matters into his own hands. Reluctantly, Hackett ventures to somehow right such past wrongs by delivering his own form of justice to the situation. Stand Your Ground tells this story, and how Hackett's journey tortures his soul as he participates in the very acts of violence he spent a career protecting his city from. Still, he feels called to defend those who have neither been protected nor served, from officers who have killed unjustly and gotten off scot free. Stand Your Ground takes the reader on a ride-along with Hackett as he seeks to restore peace to both himself and the society in which he lives.
