Lyrical Ballads (Annotated)

Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the time-Lyrical Ballads by William Wordsworth. It is a collection of poems written by William Wordsworth, first published in 1798. This work is generally considered to have marked the beginning of Romanticism in the UK The critical response was weak at first, but later became a milestone historical, which transformed English poetry and literature. Most of the poems in the 1798 edition were composed by Wordsworth; Colerdige contributed only four poems, although they make up about a third of the book due to their length. Among them is one of his best-known works: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. In 1800 a second edition was published, in which Wordsworth included additional poems and a preface detailing the common poetic principles of both authors. In the third edition, in 1802, Wordsworth added an appendix entitled Poetic Diction, in which he expanded on the ideas raised in the preface. Wordsworth and Coleridge were determined to undo what they considered to be the irritating, learned, and sculptural eighteenth-century poetic forms in English poetry, to make it more accessible to the average reader through verses written in a common, everyday language. They emphasized the vitality of the living voice, used by the poor to express their reality. This language also helps to affirm the universality of human emotions.
