Sylvia Townsend Warner was an accomplished left-wing author of novels, poetry and short stories, often writing about ordinary and overlooked members of society. By examining the detail of their lives she shows what extraordinary people they often are. Her first novel, Lolly Willowes, the story of a modern witch, was a popular success.
