Library and information science, it may be argued, began with the first effort to organize a collection of information and provide access to that information. In the modern information society libraries have a new role and there are various types of library models. In the modern information society, where the use of electronic services and Web-based information sources constantly increases, libraries are managed in a more democratic way, have more flexible communication system and work organisation, and their service development is based on the quality and user-orientation of services. Library and information science, began with the first effort to organize a collection of information and provide access to information. Library and information science has endeavoured down through the ages to the present time to fulfil the needs of library users. While certain libraries are specific fulfilling the needs of particular domain of study, most libraries are general serving a vast and varied clientele. Library science, not to be confused with librarianship (non-science), is an interdisciplinary science incorporating the humanities, law and applied science to study topics related to libraries, the collection, organization and dissemination of information resources and the political economy of information.
