Place Attachment and Spiritual Well-being Across the Lifespan

The theory of attachment has been an area of great interest and experimentation in the field of psychology. The theory and research of attachment to place has been an area of study in environmental psychology, human geography, environmental and natural resource studies, and sociology as well as in literary works and the popular press. Similarly, there has been an abundance of interest in academic circles and popular culture in well-being in general and spiritual well-being specifically. The connection between place attachment and spiritual well-being has long been recognized in sacred texts such as the Holy Bible and in the spirituality of groups such as Native Americans. Little research, however, has been done to study the connection between place attachment and spiritual well-being. This book seeks to discover the relationship between place and home attachment and spiritual well-being and how this relationship varies across the human lifespan. In today's age of homelessness and displaced people worldwide, the findings and implications of this research have broad implications for practice by mental health professionals as well as government policy makers.
