The Governess

The Governess was the first novel written in English especially for children. In the Preface Fielding admonishes her reader to remember that the true reason for reading is to improve yourself and to have pleasure. She further tells her young readers that they should desire to learn from their governess and not think they already know everything. Wise words in the 18^th century that still hold true in the 21st century.
