Calypso Founding, book one of the epic Gravida 2 Saga, begins the story of how over seven hundred young adult women, with one older man and his wife, set out to establish a colony beyond the Solar System about another star. They are the first humans to leave the Sun's planets behind. They know the journey may require more than their life time. Their founder thinks of the expedition as an opportunity for a rebirth of the human race to establish a kinder, less warlike, branch of the people. Calypso's founder, the richest woman in the Solar System, recruited the women from around the globe. She screened the women for attributes she considered necessary for the success of this journey of no return. The group, aboard the huge spaceship, Calypso, is already on a trajectory to leave the Solar System. The older man, a father figure for the children they expected to bear, was selected by the women colonists. With no fertile men on the expedition, the women understand they are to be impregnated using artificial insemination from a sperm bank aboard Calypso. The Calypso books of the Gravida 2 Saga tell two stories. The primary story is of the lives of the individuals aboard the spaceship. The other tale deals with how the group works to advance their inherited Earth technology for the benefit of their descendants.
