Lawrence is a young man living in the secluded town of Lovell, Wyoming in 1952. If the danger Lawrence faces from being black isn't enough, he has to worry about others finding out he is gay as well. He knows if anyone uncovers it, he'll be dead. Due to the suspicions others had of him when he was younger, Lawrence constantly has to cloak himself with masculinity to navigate life around his secret. Consistently wavering between fear and imagination, his reality becomes interesting and more surveilled once an unpopular acquaintance enters the picture.
