The computer animation market has expanded from a few computer graphics production facilities to over 3000 computer animation production houses, advertising agencies, computer and software companies, and film production companies. Computer animation techniques are used to visualize scientific information, create educational material, produce TV commercials, and even complete animated movies. Therefore, computer animation is no longer strictly the domain of the computer graphics programmer, but an increasingly useful tool for artists, educators, and scientists. As with every new technology, a consistent and common terminology has to be developed in order to facilitate wide-spread use of the existing expert knowledge.
